Panel: What to expect in Commercial Law

Each partner will have a panel place either on this panel or the panel later on in the afternoon. Panel slots will be allocated to partners on a first-come, first-served basis. Your panellist will be joined by four others.

The panel session will consist of a two-minute introduction by each panellist and an overview of their career journey to date, followed by 30 minutes of hosted panel questions. Following that, there will be a 20-minute Q&A session with the audience. This is an opportunity for our members to ask questions and learn more about your panellist, your organisation and how to get ahead.

Panel objective: To give the brightest penultimate year law students a realistic understanding of the Commercial Law sector. This will be an opportunity to inspire the audience by sharing top tips and educate them on the realities and expectations of working within Commercial Law and the path to success.

Choosing a panellist: We would highly recommend having a partner or associate sit on the panel. Feedback from students at previous events has been that they highly value hearing from senior professionals. Our Bright Network members are diverse and come from a range of backgrounds. At last year’s Future Lawyers Top 100 event, our attendee profile was:
55% female, 45% BAME, 27% first generation university students, 11% free school meals, 81% state school educated. Therefore, we encourage your firm to consider the above audience demographics when choosing a panellist.

Structured Networking

There will be two formal structured networking sessions during the event, with five firms participating in each. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis, so please let us know if you’d prefer to take part in the first or second networking session.

This is your opportunity for five firms to meet every student in small groups and let them know what makes your firm stand out while giving them an insight into working at your organisation. It will also be the attendees’ chance to ask any questions they might have about your career or firm.

  • You will meet every student in structured rotations
  • Students will be broken into small groups of 20
  • You will get 12 minutes to speak to each group of students. Once the 12 minutes is over, a Bright Network team member will inform you to move to the next group
  • A networking timetable provided in the pre-event networking briefing will give more detail about how this works and there will be Bright Network representatives on-hand in each booth to help time check and direct your reps to their next booth
