There's a persistent lack of alignment between Gen Z and employers when it comes to which skills are considered most valuable for the workplace. Every year, our annual research reveals huge disparity, most recently when it comes to skills like resilience, digital skills, workplace experience and leadership.
As well as the challenges that persist around aligning on which skills are valuable, there’s misalignment on why the skills are considered valuable and, in some cases, what those skills really mean when applied to the workplace.
With such a disconnect, is it possible that some of Gen Z’s most valuable skills remain hidden throughout your processes and in role? We brought together Juanita Miller, a math graduate who's recently secured a role as Technology Consultant at Waterstons, with Glen McGowan, Global Head of Emerging Talent at HSBC, to uncover where Gen Z and employers align – and don’t - when it comes to skills.
Watch the video at the bottom of this page to hear them delve into skills considered valuable, how students can be upskilling in them and how employers can support these to develop, both before and after joining a business.
