Barriers to Success

We asked our members what the biggest barriers are to pursuing their desired career path. We hope these insights will help employers understand the obstacles students and graduates might find when applying for roles, and how leading organisations can shape their recruitment strategy to support exceptional young talent. Here's what our members said:

  • Not having enough information or understanding about a certain sector makes the application process difficult, as it is hard to work out the requirements of the role.
  • Not having the right qualifications for the role, especially if an employer is expecting certain A-levels that were taken before a particular career path was chosen.
  • Not having the skills for entry-level roles, and no support to improve this.

If employers are able to remove these barriers and support potential applicants, candidates will find a much smoother application process to contribute to their professional success.
